Nutritional Testing with KBMO

Introduction:

The single most important test in my practice is the identification of foods that cause inflammation in the body. With less inflammation, we have less pain, we sleep better and feel better.

People eat three times a day and eating the wrong foods repeatedly creates a sustained inflammatory response that affects all system functions including hormones and nervous system; potentially leading to immune health issues.

Inflammation is a root cause of many chronic conditions and debilitating symptoms. One of the biggest drivers of inflammation is food sensitivities. Other than the elimination diet for diagnosing food sensitivities, many tests have been devised to help pinpoint food sensitivities with more precision, none better than KBMO.

It is hard to keep patients motivated to stay on the elimination diet especially when foods that are considered safe may be harmful to any particular person.

KBMO is the only test that actually looks for foods that trigger inflammation, not just any immune response. It is not testing for IgE which is food allergy but food intolerance. By looking at complement and IgG 1-4, there are less positives than other non-specific tests. KBMO tests food additives that people use, and also tests for leaky gut or increased intestinal permeability. Candida can pass through a permeable membrane and stimulate an immune response. Not enough hydrochloric acid, poor enzyme functions allow undigested big food particles to go through and create an immune reaction. The immune system gets exposed to lipopolysaccharides from bacterial cell membranes, to fungi, and an antibody response is created. We become sensitive to foods have similar surface sequences and generate similar antibodies as those lipopolysaccharides even though we have never been exposed to certain foods. Through molecular mimicry, we develop an antibody response through IgG. To make the test more specific, C3D complement attaches to the immunoglobulin, to the food and allows the immune system to be more laser focused and knows what to target. It can target the foods that cause the most amount of inflammation. Damian Clarke wrote a paper on the relevance of using C3D IgG testing in clinical intervention.

By eliminating the foods that cause inflammation, we see a decrease in the number of foods to which one is sensitive with a treatment of 6-12 weeks.

Emotional stress or eating foods that we are sensitive to will cause inflammation which will affect the adrenals and pituitary axis resulting in hormonal imbalances and potentially result in autoimmune disease or immune health issues. The thyroid, sex hormone dysregulation can lead to breast cancer, fibroids and endometriosis. Hormone driven events can be addressed by identifying food sensitivities that lead to systemic inflammation and health conditions. Miscarriage is increased in a pro-inflammatory state and one of the main causes of the inflammatory state are food sensitivities. Almost all pregnancy complications are worsened in the setting of inflammation.

Migraines, fatigue, inflammation, a major issue with mitochondrial dysfunction and all issues for neurologic health and cognitive impairment can be addressed by reducing inflammation. Depression is inflammation in the brain. Eliminating harmful foods can improve anxiety and depression. CRP and homocysteine levels which are markers of inflammation drop when inflammatory foods are kept at bay in a three month study.
