Different types of dental emergencies and steps to be taken

Toothache

Toothache is one of the common dental emergencies taken care of at our office. Tooth decay is one of major causes for toothache. Patients can rinse the mouth with warm water and floss to remove any food particles that are stuck between teeth. Patients can place a cold compress on the outside of the mouth over the tooth if there is swelling. Pain medicines too can help relieve patients from toothache. But it is important to meet a dentist in order to get the decayed portion of the tooth removed.

Fallen crown or filling

A dental crown or a filling may fall out during adventure sports or other activities. This may cause tooth sensitivity and may be painful. A cotton swab can be used to apply clove oil over tooth surface and reduce tooth sensitivity. Patients can try and put the crown back in place and meet the dentist at the earliest.

Chipped tooth

chipped tooth may lead to pain and the condition may be harmful to the tooth. Patients can collect the chipped part of the tooth, rinse the mouth with warm water and rush to the dental office at the earliest. Gauze can be used to stop bleeding if there is any. Cold compress can help patients avoid swelling and relieve pain when they are on their way to our office. Our dentist restores the tooth using appropriate dental materials.

Knocked out tooth

A tooth that is knocked out can be saved if the patient visits our office within an hour of the incident. The patient should pick the tooth and rinse the dust off without disturbing the roots. The patient should rinse the mouth with warm water and use gauze to stop bleeding. Try and put the tooth back into the socket. If this doesn’t work, the tooth can be preserved in the vestibule or in a container of milk before you visit our dental office.
