Why is Root Canal Treatment Necessary?

Our natural tooth is made of multiple layers which perform various functions. The top-most layer is called the enamel, which is followed by the dentin and then the pulp. The pulp is at the centre of the tooth and it has nerves and blood vessels. It supplies nutrition to the tooth and is responsible for the growth of the tooth. When a tooth is infected by bacteria, the germs destroy the natural tissues layer by layer starting from enamel. As a result of infection a cavity is formed in the tooth. An anti-bacterial agent helps kill the remaining bacteria inside the tooth. The root canal is then sealed using appropriate material and the tooth is filled with dental fillings. The tooth is then prepared and a crown is bonded over it to complete the root canal therapy.
